The most common question we receive at Medicana on hair transplantation tecniques is “Which technique is the best?”. Although each method can achieve natural-looking results, the best treatment for you will depend on a number of factors, as described in this article.
Each technique has its own advantages, and the best technique will depend on the patient and their particular circumstances. Our experienced team at Medicana Hair Transplantation will discuss the advantages and the disadvantages with you to help you to decide on the ideal course of treatment.
What is the difference between FUT and FUE?
The main difference between FUT and FUE procedures is in the harvesting hair from the donor area. During the FUT procedure, the surgeon will cut a strip of skin from the back of the head. The strip is then divided into small grafts of individual follicular units of one to four hairs. However, FUE uses the latest technology to remove individual follicular units directly from the scalp. The process is carried out using a punch device of 0.8 mm to 1 mm.
Our Medicana hair transplantation team places the grafts on the patient’s scalp for a natural look. You can learn more about the FUE technique on our website.
Which technique is the best?
Both DHI and FUE can achieve excellent results, but each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. The best option will depend on the extent and characteristics of the hair loss, the density of the donor area, and the final appearance you expect to achieve.
Some advantages of FUE include:
Minimal scar – FUE leaves in most cases a series of tiny white dots (the scars) that are barely visible to the naked eye if the hair is not shaven.
Short recovery time – Small incisions left by the FUE do not need to be sewn and usually heal within a few days. This means that there are less restrictions on returning to strenuous activities after surgery.
You can keep hair short – Since in the FUE technique scarring is minimal, short haircuts are an option.
Ideal for small transplantations – FUE can be preferred only for the patients requiring a small number of grafts or for younger patients in the early stages of hair loss.
Medicana hair transplantation team recommends FUE technique which is the most ideal method for our patients.
