What is Strabismus?

Strabismus disorder, in addition to negatively affecting the external appearance in humans, also causes a significant decrease in the quality of vision and vision.

Although it also varies depending on the causes of strabismus, these shifts seen above the eyes can be either temporary or permanent.

Who Has Strabismus?

Strabismus is primarily and generally seen in children. Although it usually appears in childhood, it can also occur in older ages. Strabismus is observed in five percent of all children, while this rate is one percent in adults. It is also not gender dependent. It is seen with equal frequency and range in both sexes. Except for some rare types, it does not show a genetic transition in general.

Do Our Two Eyes Work Together?

The act of seeing is an event performed by the brain. The eye, which is known as an emotional perception organ, transmits the visual process to the visual cortex in the brain via both the optic nerve and the visual pathways. Apart from this emotional system, there is a motor system that is used in order to turn both eyes to the object they see and to create the same image in both retinal layers. This motor system is also called extraocular muscles.

Normally, the eyes look at the same point. The two images transmitted to the brain by both eyes are combined by the brain. This is called fusion. Thanks to this combination, three-dimensional vision is provided. The act of seeing is provided by the movement centers on the eyes and the brain, and by the six muscles located outside the eye. The image transmitted to the brain by the two eyes looking in opposite directions will either be ignored or suppressed by the brain.

What Are the Causes of Strabismus?

The exact cause of strabismus is unknown. Genetic transition can be observed in some families. Sometimes it can also occur due to a disorder caused by the use of glasses. What are the Symptoms of Strabismus?
